Natural Seating {DIY Log Bench}

When you're out at a friend's place in the country sitting around a campfire on either some big rocks with sharp edges, or logs that feel like they'll roll away from under you at any minute, I bet you're wishing there were some more practical seating around.

Why not start up a new DIY project and make yourself and your guests more comfortable with log bench seating?! For log "sofa" you will need a chainsaw, but for more simple designs, you can use a regular saw and some nails (or screws).

That's it; one more way to be stylish and comfy in the great outdoors.

Drifting into Style {Driftwood Accent Table}

If you are like me (and the rest of my family), you like to have pieces of furniture or accessories that are not typical and stand out. You know, something that really sets your home apart from your neighbours.

For me, I currently have old copper fire extinguishers that were re-purposed into lamps in my living room.

Fall Centerpiece

Sometimes when you're entertaining guests during the festive seasons, there's so much preparation with the food that sometimes the centerpiece at your dining table is the last thing on your mind.

Why not wow your guests with something beautiful & natural like this:

Find a decent sized (and not rotten) tree branch, hollow out a few equally spaced holes to fit some tea-lights (you can get large packs at the dollar store for real cheap). Next use burlap or a festively coloured table runner and place down the center of your table.

Now place the log with the your tea-lights on top of the table runner, and strategically scatter mini pumpkins & gourds around it. For an added touch, like you see in the picture above, buy artificial leaves from the dollar store and disperse them randomly.

There you have it; a beautiful fall centerpiece.

In the winter you can always re-use the log (as long as it wasn't rotting), and wrap the ends with festive ribbon, and add pine branches & a few miniature Christmas ornaments in place of the pumpkins & gourds.

Urban Nature

As you can see here, natural finishes aren't just limited to rustic, or traditional interiors. A slab of natural wood like this can create a unique look to your home while adding visual interest with the natural movement of the wood grain.

This counter-top in particular has unfinished edges, with a sealant over top to give an even more raw and natural appearance to the wood. Even if you aren't an "outdoorsy" person, I believe that anyone could appreciate the beauty of this.
